Bībī Shahrbānū, Mausoleum, a place of pilgrimage on the southern slopes of an eponymous mountain situated along the south-eastern edge of the old town of Rayy. The site is revered by Shiʿis as the tomb of Shahrbānū, daughter of the last Sāsānid king, Yazdgird III (r. 11–30/632–651), who is said by some Shiʿi sources to have been captured by the Arabs and to have become the wife of Imam al-Ḥusayn and mother of ʿAlī Zayn al-ʿĀbidīn, the fourth in the line of Shiʿi imams (al-Qummī, 196; Ibn Bābawayh…
