Al-Sahlajī (pp. 64, 84) refers to a narrator of Bāyazīd Basṭāmī’s sayings by the name of Abū al-Ḥasan ʿAlī b. Muḥammad Dāwūdī Bustī who, according to some recent scholars, is one and the same as Abū al-Ḥasan Bustī (al-Isfarāyinī, introd., 84, note 14). Others, however, have questioned this assumption on the basis of his nisba Dāwūdī (Pourjavady, Zindagānī, 23–24 marginalia).
Although the dates of his birth and death are not specified, one can assume, on the basis of the dates of his master Abū ʿAlī al-Fārmadī (q.v., d. 477…
