History

A major migration of Turkoman tribes to Anatolia started with the defeat of the Byzantine army by the Saljūqs at the battle of Malāzgird (Manzikert) (see Āqsarāʾī, 16–17; Sümer, İslâm, 2, 5, 8 et passim; Bosworth, ‘The Political and Dynastic History’, 63–64).
