Police duties, formerly under the control of various janissary officers, were placed under the jurisdiction of the Serʿasker ([q.v.] see also bāb-i serʿaskerī ) in 1241/ 1826, and in 1262/1846 became a separate administration, the Ḍabṭiyee Mus̲h̲īriyyeti (Ḷutfī iii 27-8).
