, Sayyid Muḥammad Gīsū Darāz , a celebrated Čis̲h̲tī saint of the Deccan, was born at Delhi on 4 Rad̲j̲ab 721/30 July 1321. His ancestors originally came from Harāt, from where they migrated to India and settled at Delhi. His father, Sayyid Yūsuf Ḥusaynī alias Sayyid Rād̲j̲ā, was a disciple of S̲h̲ayk̲h̲ Niẓām al-Dīn Awliyāʾ [q.v.]. Gīsū Darāz was a small child when Sultan Muḥammad b. Tug̲h̲luḳ (725/1325-752/1351) embarked upon his Deccan experiment and forced the ʿulamāʾ and mas̲h̲āʾik̲h̲ of Delhi to migrate to Dawlatābād. Sayyid Rād̲j̲ā left Delhi under duress and settl…
