Abstract
The contract verbs are verbs whose stem-forming thematic vowel, -a-, -e- or -o-, contracts with the verbal ending; (1st class) -á-ō: e.g. timá-ō > timô ‘honor’; (2nd class) -é-ō: e.g. poié-ō > poiô ‘make, do’; (3rd class) -ó-ō: e.g. dēló-ō > dēlô ‘to make visible or manifest’.
