Landlocked Jiangxi province lies south of the middle and lower arm of the Yangzi . It borders Zhejiang and Fujian in the east, Guangdong in the south, Hubei and Anhui in the north, and Hunan in the west. The Gan River, which crosses the province from the south to the north and is the second-longest tributary of the Yangzi, gave the province its name. In addition to the capital Nanchang, other important cities are Jiujiang, Ganzhou, and Jingdezhen.
