The Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region borders Shaanxi province on the east, Inner Mongolia on the north and west, and Gansu province on the south. It measures 456 km from north to south, and 250 km from east to west. Ningxia consists to 38% of hills, 27% flood plains and basins, 17% table lands, 16% mountains, and 2% deserts.
