This account is a brief overview of the state of Chinese linguistics in Korea. Because Korea and China are neighboring countries, Chinese was for a long time the most important influence on the Korean language. This dominance stretched from the beginning of Korea’s history to the early 20th century, from which point the Korean language was increasingly exposed to both Japanese and English in this order.
