The study of anatomy for painters and sculptors is now referred to as anatomy for artists (German Künstleranatomie) or as plastic anatomy. During the 15th and 16th centuries notomía or anatomia (Italian) could mean instruction in anatomy both for artists and for students of medicine. Still in the 17th century paraphrases were used, such as anatomie accommodée aux arts de peinture et de sculpture.
