These is no consensus on the definition of art criticism, especially in respect of where it differs from art history and art theory. A broad concept of art criticism would encompass all writing about art, or a historical practice of discussing art, from Antiquity (Plato, Aristotle) through medieval writings, Renaissance treatises, and Baroque art theory to the exhibition critiques of the 18th century and later.
