The term chronicle usually denotes a continuous, linear historical narrative with a relatively clearly defined focus. In the early modern period, most chronicles were related to a person, geographical area, or institution, e.g. village chronicles, municiple chronicles (Chronicle, town), territorial chronicles, family chronicles, dynastic chronicles (Dynastic history), church chronicles, episcopal chronicles, and chronicles of orders.
