1. Definition

The word “park” (German Park, French parc, etc.) derives from the Middle Latin parricus (“enclosed area”). In its original sense, it denoted an enclosure for wild animals. Zedler’s lexicon expands the definition to include components characteristic of its period, such as avenues and open squares.
