Politica Christiana

The Latin expression Politica Christiana (Christian policy) is used in the sources and in scholarship. It denotes in general any effort to Christianize politics.

The use of the term in the early modern period dates back to the Reformation. From the 1530s, German Lutheran scholars in the Empire in particular drew on biblical evidence to develop concepts limiting the authority of non-Protestant rulers and thereby to consolidate their own confession and found a reformed Christian politics [13]; [14].
