1. Crisis factors

Outside France, the wave of revolutions that struck many European countries in 1848/49 became known in many of them as the “February Revolutions.” These cannot be described as a “continental revolution” of Europe, because they did not affect Russia, Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Belgium, or Spain; they did share many structural hallmarks, however, and thus constitute a type of European revolution [14]; [26].
