The term “Turkish Wars” (German Türcken-Kriege; also Türcken-Gefahr, “Turkish danger”; Türcken-Drohung, “Turkish threat”) arose in the late 16th century and rapidly became established as a term signaling the defining quality of the confrontation between the “Turkish” or Ottoman Empire (with map) and Latin Christendom [5]; [16].
