In two works from the early Middle Ages—the ברייתא דשמואל Baraita de-Šemuʾel and the ברייתא דמזלות Baraita de-Mazzalot—the Hebrew astrological and astronomical terminology reveals a Greek and Arabic origin. There is also significant astrological content in ספר חכמוני Sep̄er Ḥakhmoni and ספר המזלות Sep̄er ha-Mazzalot, two Hebrew works by Shabbetai Donnolo (913–ca. 982). All of these works were known and referred to by later medieval Jewish scientists, who occasionally drew on their Hebrew terminology; but inasmuch as they are chronological…
