The Shrine of the Book was built for the purpose of housing the most complete and well preserved Dead Sea Scrolls found in Qumran caves (1947 and 1956). The building itself is emblematic, considered one of the landmarks of modern architecture, expressing metaphorically the importance the Hebrew Bible has for Jewish civilization and placing The Book at the center of national identity.
