Johann Albrecht Widmanstetter (1506-1557) was a Christian Hebraist from Germany who amassed a notable library of Jewish manuscripts and printed books that is today housed at the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek München. He also gained significance as the author of works like a commentary on the Quran (1543) and as the editor of the editio princeps of the Syriac New Testament (1555) - both projects for which he harnessed his thorough learning of Jewish literature.
