Messianism is a central thematic strand of Judaism, running through Jewish history from the Bible to the modern era. In Central Europe a heterodox, Romantic, and utopian messianism emerged in the 20th century, represented by authors such as Martin Buber, Gustav Landauer, and Ernst Bloch. They attest to an affinity between Jewish messianism and socialistic utopia.
