Itzhak Gormejano (Gormezano) Goren was born in Alexandria, Egypt, in 1941. He and his family emigrated to Israel in 1952, where they lived in transit camps (maʿabarot) for four years. He studied English literature and French Culture (Department of French Culture) at Tel Aviv University and Hebrew University, and theater arts at a graduate school in the United States (1974–80).
