David Levy is an Israeli politician who served for more than thirty-five years in the Knesset (1969–2006). Born in Rabat, Morocco, in 1939, Levy emigrated to Israel with his family in 1959 and settled in the peripheral northern town of Beit She’an. As a construction worker at the age of twenty-six, he represented the construction workers union on the Beit She’an workers’ council. The following year he became deputy mayor and later was mayor of Beit She’an from 1964 to 1977.
