Taragano (Tarigano, Taregano, Taragan) was a surname borne by Jews whose ancestors came from Tarragona, a port city on the Mediterranean coast of southern Catalonia. Jews from Tarragona settled mainly in North Africa or other parts of the Ottoman Empire following the expulsion in 1492.
