The study of computer-mediated communication (CMC), or communication via computers, has been rapidly developing since the 1990s as the use of CMC became more ubiquitous. This entry reviews some of the trends in CMC research and discusses some aspects of CMC and language use, primarily in Russian, as an illustration.
