The term hovorová čeština (‘colloquial Czech’, henceforth ColC) was used throughout the 20th century to refer to two different concepts: the spoken register of Standard Czech (henceforth SC), used mainly in conversation (hence the alternative label colloquial form of the Standard Czech), and an autonomous standard variety or subvariety within SC. ColC is also used informally for spoken discourse in general, regardless of the variety used.
