Originally from Semifonte, the Velluti lived in Florence, in the Oltrarno from the middle of the 13th century and belonged to the business bourgeoisie. Skillful matrimonial strategies allowed them to ally themselves to the oldest families and, subsequently, to the rich and powerful aristocracy, opening the doors to high communal functions.
