In South Asia, sexuality remains a taboo topic in public discourse and, consequently, little research has been conducted on sexual abuse of adults or children. In the 1990s, three surveys conducted in Delhi and Mumbai by Sakshi, RAHI, and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences indicate that over 40 percent of young girls in India might be victims of sexual abuse.
