It is possible to group works on women in twentieth-century Turkey chronologically, in three broad categories: 1. ideological works written by the advocates of the new republic; 2. works carried out (1940–80) by social scientists working within a modernist paradigm; and 3. works carried out by students of social science and history that are influenced by feminist movements or feminist scholarship.
