[128c] During 1254/1838–39, Muhammad Shah Qajar decided to conquer Herat. Dovetailing nicely with his plan were separate letters that he received about this time from Kabul from Sardar Dust Muhammad Khan, who had his mind set on regaining Peshawar, the Punjab, Kashmir, and Sind; from Sardar Kuhandil Khan in Qandahar; and from Sardar Shams al-Din Khan in Herat who was with Prince Kamran at this time.
