[189c] When Muhammad Shah Qajar withdrew from Herat as recorded above, Prince Kamran was relieved and set about repairing the damage done to the city walls by the artillery bombardments. Although he sought the help of Major Pottinger who had been there throughout the siege encouraging the prince to stand fast to rebuild the city, the latter turned a deaf ear. To make matters worse, one day the Englishman remonstrated with Shayr Muhammad Khan the brother of Wazir Yar Muhammad Khan and insulted him.
