I. CONSTITUTIONAL SYSTEM

Prior to its independence on 19 June 1961, Kuwait was a protected state in special treaty relations with Great Britain which controlled its foreign relations. As a result of the termination in June 1961 of the 1899 Agreement of Protection with Britain, Kuwait became a fully independent sovereign state. And in May 1963, it became member of the United Nations.
