The birthplace of Philemon is unknown, and the presumed ethnic attested in Sch. Il. 2, 258a1 (κατὰ Φιλήμωνα τὸν Κρητικόν) and accepted by Erbse (ad loc.1) is probably a corruption: Villoison (Proll. Il., 1788, p. XXIII2) suggested emending it to τὸν κριτι…
