Christine, Saint
(107 words)

[German Version]

(of Bolsena; feast day Jul 24). Her cult has been attested since the 4th century in the catacombs of Bolsena (Latium) named after her, and she is portrayed on a mosaic in San Apollinare Nuovo (Ravenna). A legendary Greek passio (first attested in an Oxyrhynchos papyrus from the 5th cent.) and other, probably dependent, sources such as the Martyrologium Hieronymianum, which mention a martyr Christine from Tyre (Lebanon) on the same day, are at odds with this evidence.
