Little is known about the life of Titus Flavius Clemens (c. 150 ce – 215 ce), who was called Clement of Alexandria after the city where he was active as a Christian philosopher and teacher. He was possibly born in Athens into a non-Christian family. Before coming to Alexandria, he traveled around looking for mentors, but the only teacher whom he mentions by name is Pantaenus.
