(Nov 19, 1833, Biebrich am Rhein [near Wiesbaden] – Oct 1, 1911, Siusi allo Sciliar, Italy [Seis am Schlern, Tyrol]). Son of a pastor and court chaplain, Dilthey studied theology, philosophy, history, and classical philology in Heidelberg and Berlin. Dilthey received his doctorate in philosophy in Berlin with a dissertation on F.D.E.
