(Ordo Fratrum Praedicatorum, OP, order of preachers). Founded by Dominic of Caleruega, who was active from 1206 in southern France as an itinerant preacher and, together with his companions, was appointed in 1215 as diocesan preacher by the bishop of Toulouse.
