The term Monarchianism does not refer to a homogeneous theological system but rather a variety of theological movements beginning in the 2nd century. It would be methodologically inappropriate to use collective terms such as Adoptionists (Adoptionism), Dynamic Monarchianists, Modalists (Modalism), or Patripassians to describe a phenomenon later subsumed under the collective heading Monarchianists and then claim that these diverse groups shared an emphasis on different aspects of a fundamental schema, which F.
