Philip the Disciple belonged to the inner circle of Jesus’ followers; he is not to be confused with the evangelist of the same name (Acts 6:5; 8:4–13, 26–40; 21:8f.). He is mentioned in the synoptic Gospel lists of disciples (Mark 3:18; Matt 10:3; Luke 6:14; cf. Acts 1:13), each time in fifth place, but there is no further mention of him.
