(1515, Eilenburg, Saxony – Apr 1, 1585, Utenbach, near Jena), Protestant theologian. He began his studies at Wittenberg in 1530, was taught by Luther, and received his M.A. in 1538. In 1541 he was appointed archdeacon in Jena and in 1542 at the Marienkirche in Halle. In 1547, after having been displaced by the Schmalkaldic War (Schmalkaldic League), he was appointed pastor in Nordhausen. In 1550 he became pastor of the Augustinian church in Erfurt, where he served as senior pastor of the Erfurt clergy (1561) and after 1566 as professor of the Augsburg Confession. In 1569 …
