The Sydow Brotherhood, the first union of Protestant pastors, was founded in the village of Sydow (Altmark) by the local pastor Georg Schulz (1889–1954), who later moved to Barmen-Unterbarmen. Until 1945 the brotherhood was open only to clergy, unlike the Berneuchen groups.
