Thecla, Saint
(109 words)

[German Version]

Thecla of Iconium, apostle and martyr, was one of the most revered saints of early Christianity. The originally oral tradition of her life is now preserved as the “Acts of Thecla” section of the Acts of Paul, where it has been combined in part with ascetic Encratite elements. The historical nucleus is found in the second section of the narrative, which has clear echoes of authentic acts of the martyrs.
