Trent, bishopric (since 1964 archbishopric) and city in upper Italy (Ital. Trento). The Roman city of Tridentum is attested as the seat of a bishop since the 4th century (Vigilius, its patron bishop). The diocese was associated with the metropolitanate of Aquileia (to 1751) and Salzburg (1818–1920). Until 1964 it included the Adige Valley and large portions of German-speaking South Tyrol.
