By Suarezianism is meant the trend of thought in Catholic Scholasticism which derives from the Spanish Jesuit Francisco Suarez (1548—1617). Suarez taught philosophy (1571—74) and theology (till his death in 1617) in Segovia, Valladolid, Rome, Alcalá, Salamanca, and Coimbra (from 1597). His works (26 volumes in the Vivès edition) had a considerable influence even on his con­temporaries.
