§ 1560. For the Tad̲h̲kirah i S̲h̲ūs̲h̲tarīyah of S. ʿAbd Allāh b. Nūr al-Dīn S̲h̲ūs̲h̲tarī, which includes notices of celebrated men connected with S̲h̲ūs̲h̲tar, see no. 486 supra.

§ 1561. ʿAbd al-Laṭīf b. Abī Ṭālib b. Nūr al-Dīn b. Niʿmat Allāh al-Ḥusainī al-Mūsawī al-S̲h̲ūs̲h̲tarī, a Nūrī Saiyid and the nephew of ʿAbd Allāh b. Nūr al-Dīn S̲h̲us̲h̲tarī (for whom see no. 486 supra), was born in 1172/1758–9. After visiting S̲h̲īrāz, Kirmāns̲h̲āhān, and Bag̲h̲dād he left Baṣrah in 1202/1787–8 for Bengal. In 1211/1796–7 he went to Lucknow and in 1214/1799–1800 to Ḥaidarābād, where in 1215–16/1800–2 he wrote his Tuḥfat al-ʿālam, dedicated to Mīr-ʿĀlam (for whom see no. 1034 supra). In 1216/1801–2 he went to Bombay, where he met Abū Ṭālib K̲h̲ān Landanī (for whom see no. 173 supra), and in 1219/1804–5 he returned to Ḥaidarābād, where he died in 1220/1806 (see Rieu Suppt. 84 ii).

Tuḥfat al-ʿālam, a narrative of the author’s life and travels preceded by an account of S̲h̲ūs̲h̲tar, of some neighbouring places and of the Nūrī Saiyids and followed, in some mss., by an appendix, D̲h̲ail al-Tuḥfah, written in 1219/1804–5 at the request of Āqā Aḥmad b. M. ʿAlī Bihbahānī (for whom see no. 1575 infra): Būhār 95 (autograph (?), ah 1214/1799 (?)), Edinburgh 85 (ah 1222/1807) Bodleian 323 (ah 1229/1814), Bānkīpūr Suppt. i 1777 (ah 1229/1814), Ivanow Curzon 98 (defective at both ends. Contains part of the D̲h̲ail. Early 19th cent.), Rieu i 383a (contains the D̲h̲ail. Early 19th cent.), Suppt. 84 ii (contains the D̲h̲ail. ah 1258/1842), Leningrad Univ. 1101 (ah 1255/1839. See Romaskewicz p. 4), i.o. 4624 (ah 1258/1842. See Arberry in jras. 1939 p. 389), Ross and Browne 238 (circ. ad 1864), Blochet i 646 (contains the D̲h̲ail. 19th cent.), Āṣafīyah i p. 232 no. 634, Berlin 98 (contains the D̲h̲ail), Majlis 685 (?), Rehatsek p. 69 no. 5.
