§ 1453. ʿAbbās K̲h̲ān Iqbāl Āshtiyānī, who in 1342/19241 and ahs 1312/1933–42 was described as a Muʿallim in the Dār al-Muʿallimīn (Teachers’ Training College) and in 19383 as a Professor in the University of Ṭihrān, visited Europe for the first time in 19254 and was here again thirteen years later, since his introduction to the Ṭabaqāt al-s̲h̲uʿarāʾ al-muḥdat̲h̲īn was written at Paris in September, 1938. Among his works are Tārīk̲h̲ i mufaṣṣal i Īrān (vol. i, Ṭihrān, ahs 1312/1933–4. See no. 321 (a) (9) supra), Tārīk̲h̲ i ʿumūmī wa Īrān (Luzac’s Oriental List 1940 p. 107), and Tārik̲h̲ i tamaddun i jadīd (Luzac’s Oriental List 1942 p. 9), as well as biographies of ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Muqaffaʿ, (see no. 1667 (31) infra) and Qābūs b. Was̲h̲mgīr (no. 1457 infra). Persian and Arabic5 works edited by him include (1) Ras̲h̲īd al-Dīn Waṭwāṭ’s Ḥadāʾiq al-siḥr, Ṭihrān, ahs 1308/1929*, (2) the Bayān al-adyān of Abū ’l-Maʿālī M.
