§ 614. Taj al-Dīn Maḥmūd b. K̲h̲udā-dād Us̲h̲nuhī or Us̲h̲nūʾī,6 called Durr i Yatīm, a pupil of S̲h̲ams al-Dīn M. b. ʿAbd al-Malik al-Dailamī,7 was buried in the city of Harāt near the Darb i K̲h̲wus̲h̲ beside the grave of his s̲h̲aik̲h̲ Sulṭān Majd al-Dīn Isfizārī known as (al-mas̲h̲hūr bi-) Ṭālibah [so]. It is said [Mas̲h̲had iv p. 21115, Bkp. xvii p. 177] that Najm al-Dīn Dāyah (d. 654/1256) praises him in his tafsīr (presumably the Baḥr al-ḥaqāʾiq) as one of the greatest of Ṣūfīs.

§ 621. Rukn [i?] ʿImād, i.e. presumably Rukn [al-Dīn] b. ʿImād [al-Dīn],14 was a disciple of S̲h̲. Burhān al-Dīn G̲h̲arīb C̲h̲ishtī. The latter, a disciple of Niẓām al-Dīn Auliyā (see pl. i no. 1259 4th footnote, etc.), died at Daulatābād in 732/1331 (Maṭlūb al-ṭālibīn, Ethé col. 324, l. 20). The S̲h̲amāʾil al atqiyāʾ was written at his request, when he had completed a similar work entitled Nafāʾis al-anfās.

§ 626. According to the commentator Niʿmat Allāh the Jām i jahān-numā was written by Muhyī ’l-Dīn M. b. ʿIzz al-Dīn Yūsuf, known as M. S̲h̲īrīn. In the text of the work itself most of the manuscripts contain no mention of the author, but there are at least two in which his name occurs. Thus according to the Dresden ms he calls himself18 M. b. ʿIzz al-Dīn ʿĀdil b. Yūsuf known as S̲h̲īrīnī, while in the Bombay ms the name appears (in the preface?) as M. b. M ʿIzz al-Dīn ʿĀdil b. Yūsuf al-s̲h̲ahīr bi-’l-Mag̲h̲ribī. If this is correct (and it seems to involve no chronological or other improbability), the author is evidently the poet “Mag̲h̲ribī”, who elsewhere seems to be called only M. S̲h̲īrīn “Mag̲h̲ribī” without mention of his laqab or his father’s name, and who died in 809/1406–7. There has been some confusion among bibliographers between this work and a philosophical encyclopaedia of the same title by Mīr G̲h̲iyāt̲h̲ al-Dīn Manṣūr S̲h̲īrāzī [Ḥ. K̲h̲. ii p. 499: J.i j.-n. li-Mīr Gh. al-D. Manṣūr b. Mīr Ṣadr al-D. fī funūn al-ḥikmah fārisī]. The latter work, if ever completed, must have failed to secure diffusion, since it “is not mentioned in the notices of the author among his works” (Rieu) and, if extant at all, is extremely rare, the Āṣafīyah ms (cat. vol. i p. 808 section Riyādī), if correctly described as the J. i j.-n. by Manṣūr,19 being apparently the only recorded copy, but a portion of it, namely “the first treatise of the third part (wajh)” is known as the Ak̲h̲lāq i Manṣūrī and is preserved in several manuscripts (see pl. iv no. 843 infra), while the first risālah on logic of the fourth wajh is preserved at Madrās (i 474 (d)).

M., d. 505/1111–12, cf. pl. iv no. 813 infra), but in the colophon of Ivanow 2nd Suppt. 1074 (17) a chronogrammatical quatrain contains the name “Yūsufī” and the date of completion is given as 9 Rabīʿ i 919/15 May 1513. It may be noted that the same date occurs in the Bodleian ms. 1246 (though the catalogue says nothing about “Yūsufī”), and that on a fly-leaf in the Bānkīpūr ms. 1684 the work is called Anwār i ḥikmat i Yūsufī. “Yūsufī” b. M. b. Yūsuf, physician and poet, wrote several medical works (see pl. ii no. 408) and also the Badāʾiʿ al-ins̲h̲āʾ, for which see pl. iii no. 447. Upsala Zetterstéen ascribes the work to Yūsuf Qarābāg̲h̲ī (cf. no. 638 infra).

§ 647. Mīr ʿAbd al-Wāḥid “S̲h̲āhidī”36 b. Ibrāhīm b. K̲h̲aṭīb Bilgrāmī37 died at Bilgrām on 3 Ramaḍān 1017/11 Dec. 1608 at a very advanced age. ʿAbd al-Qādir Badāʾūnī, who had gone from Lucknow to Bilgrām in 977/1569–70 and had received a visit from him, mentions his commentary on the Nuzhat al-arwāḥ (see no. 617(1)(a) supra) and says that he had written many tracts on the technical terms of the Ṣūfīs (dar iṣṭilāhāt i Ṣūfīyah k̲h̲ailī rasāʾil nawis̲h̲tah), including one entitled Sanābil [sic]. According to Raḥmān ʿAlī he wrote also works entitled Ḥaqāʾiq i Hindī and Ḥall i s̲h̲ubahāt as well as a commentary on the Kāfiyah (S̲h̲arḥ i Kāfiyah tā baḥt̲h̲ i ghair i munṣarif kih ān-rā ba-ṭaur i maʿānī i taṣawwuf kas̲h̲īdah) and, in verse, a munāẓarah i anbah u k̲h̲urpuzah. § 649. Ismāʿīl b. Shāh-ʿAlam ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz.

§ 650. Ṣādiq Bēg “Ṣādiqī” Afs̲h̲ār, but known for his Turkī tad̲h̲kirah the Majmaʿ al-k̲h̲awāṣṣ, for which see pl. i Add. ad no. 1105 [1105a], was born in 940/1533–4 and was still alive in 1010/1601–2.
- Ḥaẓẓīyāt (beg. Yā Rab zi suk̲h̲anhā-yi hawas dūr-am dār*), a small tract on Ṣūfism modelled on, or similar to the Lad̲h̲d̲h̲āt of Muʿīn Astarābādī38 and divided in to four faṣls (so Berlin) or bābs (so Bodleian): Bānkīpūr Suppt. i 1995 (12) (18th cent.), Bodleian 1243 (2) (Kalimāt i Ṣādiqī B. A.), Berlin 12 (7) (K̲h̲aṭṭīyāt) (sic).
§ 651. Miyān K̲h̲ūb Muḥammad C̲h̲is̲h̲tī died on 24 S̲h̲awwāl 1023/27 November 1614 and was buried near the mosque of Farḥat al-Mulk at Aḥmadābād. He wrote in 986/1578 a mystical mat̲h̲nawī entitled K̲h̲ūb tarang in the Gujarātī dialect of Urdu, and in 990/1582 a Persian translation and commentary entitled Amwāj i k̲h̲ūbī (mss.: Sprenger p. 619, Ethé 2006–7, Calcutta Madrasah 120, Āṣafīyah i p. 400 no. 496, Blochet i 127–8, Bānkīpūr Suppt. ii 2075, Madrās 97).
