§ 781. [K̲h̲wājah] Abū Ḥātim Muẓaffar [b. Ismāʿīl] Isfizārī was, like “K̲h̲aiyām”, and Maimūn b. Najīb Wāsiṭī, one of the astronomers who worked from 467/1074–5 onwards at the computation of Malik-S̲h̲āh’s Jalālī era. In 506/1112–13 he and “K̲h̲aiyām” visited Balk̲h̲ and were met there by Niẓāmī ʿArūḍī, the author of the C̲h̲ahār maqālah.

(Āt̲h̲ār i ʿulwī) (beg…. miyān i aqrān i k̲h̲wīs̲h̲ manẓūr s̲h̲awand … Ḥakīmān c̲h̲unīn guftah and kih maujūdāt i ʿālam), dedicated to Niẓām al-Dīn Fak̲h̲r al-Mulk Abū ’l-Fatḥ Muẓaffar b. Qiwām al-Dīn and divided into three bābs: Tihrān “Dih-K̲h̲udā’s” private library (see the editor’s introduction, p. yā-zāy), Mas̲h̲had iv p. 218 no. 926 (very defective).

The whole of this work except the preface is incorporated (with due acknowledgment) in the faṣl dar āt̲h̲ār i ʿulwī of S̲h̲ah-mardān Rāzī’s encyclopaedia Nuzhat-nāmah i ʿAlāʾī (see Āt̲h̲ār i ʿulwī, editor’s introduction p. yā-bā), and the old mss. of that work are the oldest authorities for the text.

§ 782. [S̲h̲araf al-Dīn] M. b. Masʿūd al-Masʿūdī has already been mentioned (pl. ii § 89) as the author of the Jahān-dānis̲h̲ completed in 643/1246 [?].

(Risālah dar maʿrifat i ʿanāṣir u kāʾināt al-jaww,) (beg. Minnat K̲h̲udāy rā kih mabdaʾ i ʿuqūl u arwāḥ ast u hast kunandah i ajsām u as̲h̲bāḥ), in a muqaddamah and thirteen bābs, of which the last four deal respectively with the causes of wind, earthquakes, springs and minerals: D̲h̲arīʿah i p. 8 ult., Mas̲h̲had S̲h̲. ʿAlī Akbar Nihāwandī (ah 1133/1720–1. D̲h̲arīʿah, loc. cit.), Kapūrt’halah (see M. S̲h̲afī”s description in ocm. iii/4 (August 1927) p. 6).

§ 783. For the causes of wind, cloud, rain, thunder, etc., see the Dānis̲h̲-nāmah i jahān of G̲h̲iyāt̲h̲ al-Dīn ʿAlī b. ʿAlī Amīrān Ḥusainī Iṣfahānī (pl. ii § 595).

§ 784. To S̲h̲āh ʿAbbās (ah 996–1038/1587–1629) was dedicated: (Risālah dar s̲h̲ināk̲h̲t i kāʾināt i jaww u ṭabaqāt i hawā u k̲h̲āk) (beg. Ḥamdī az qaṭarā i bārān afzūn), in a muqaddamah, three bābs and a tad̲h̲nīb: Majlis i 621 (3).

§ 785. M. Taqī b. Ḥusain b. Jamāl al-Dīn Māzandarānī flourished in the reign of a Quṭb-S̲h̲āh of Golconda (possibly ʿAbd Allāh Quṭb-S̲h̲āh, ah 1035–83/1626–72].

Lamaʿāt i Quṭb-S̲h̲āhī (beg. Zībātarīn zībī), on prognostications of rain, snow, clouds of various colours, eclipses, etc.: Rehatsek p. 122 no. 16 (3) (foll. 72–89. ah 1231/1816), Ross and Browne 244 (3) (foll. 18–21. Transcribed from the preceding ms. in 1280/1864).

§ 786. M. ʿAlī “Ḥazīn” Jilānī was born at Iṣfahān in 1103/1692 and died at Benares in 1180/1766 (see pl. i § 1150, pl. ii § 796).
