§ 834. ʿAlī b. Ḥusain Kās̲h̲ifī, who died in 939/1532–3 (see pl. i § 1277), is the author to whom the Ḥirz al-amān is usually ascribed. It should be noted, however, that a work of this title occurs in a list of works by Ḥasan b. Rūzbihān S̲h̲īrāzī quoted by Blochet (ii 769) from the preface to his Dastūr al-salṭanah.

¶ § 836. Farīd al-Dīn Masʿūd ibn Ḥāfiẓ Ibrāhīm Dihlawī, Court Astronomer to S̲h̲āh-Jahān, died in 1039/1629 (see pl. ii § 133).

§ 837. M. Munawwar b. ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn [b. Ṣalāḥ al-Dīn K̲h̲ān Jafrī Anṣārī] flourished in the reign of Aurangzēb (ah 1069–1119/ 1659–1707). He is apparently the father who according to the author of the Asrār al-jafr (see § 838, infra) was asked by both S̲h̲āh-Jahān and Aurangzēb for predictions concerning the future of the dynasty.

§ 838. Abū Ṣāliḥ Muʿīn al-Dīn M. Munʿim b. S̲h̲. Jaʿfar [sic] al-Aʿdādī, as he is called in Bkp. Spt. ii 2048 (A.Ṣ.M. al-D.M. Munʿim in ʿAlīgaṛh Subḥ. mss. p. 24) is apparently the same person as M. Munʿim b. S̲h̲. Munawwar b. S̲h̲. ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn b. Ṣalāḥ al-Dīn K̲h̲ān Jafrī Anṣārī (Āṣafīyah ii p. 1680 no. 166) and M. Muʿīn [sic] b. M. Munawwar (ocm. x/3 p. 107). In the Asrār al-jafr he mentions that his father [evidently M. Munawwar b. ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn, for whom see § 837, supra] was asked for predictions both by S̲h̲āh-Jahān (ah 1037–69/1628–59) and by Aurangzēb (ah 1069–1119/1659–1707), whom he speaks of as dead.
