Note 1

Enlarged edition of the 'defence' of the Statute of Toledo.

Note 2

In the note to the reader (pages [125-127]) the author explains how, as soon as the 'opusculus' [first edition] had come from the press in Venice (= 'Vix dum opusculum hoc typis excusum Venetiis fuerat'), a vehement agitation did arise against it (coming more especially from the Jews), so that Velasquez found it necessary to reply.

Note 3

It may be supposed that, like the 1573- publication, this enlarged re-edition was somewhat forced upon Plantin by his Spanish 'patrons'.

Note 4

Listed in M 296, folio 4v ([Defensio statuti toletani Didaci Velasq.] Idem a⁰ 1575, 12⁰, f[euilles] 5½), and M 164, folio 9r.
