[German Version] (1296, Constantinople – Sep 1, 1359, Thessalonica), the most important theologian of Hesychasm and father of Palamism (see below), still an influential school of Orthodox theology. At the age of 20, Palamas withdrew to Athos, where the Hesychast Nicodemus introduced him to the Jesus Prayer (Heart, Prayer of the).
